Galliford Try’s Environment business has been named as a finalist for two top prizes including the coveted Contractor of the Year title, as well as in the Energy in Water accolade in this year’s Water Industry Awards, run by Utility Week.

The Contractor of the Year award seeks out contractors who best showcase a combination of commercial success, agenda-setting innovation, environmental stewardship and workforce best practice including the highest standards of health and safety.

Galliford Try’s nomination demonstrates the business’s collaborative approach towards client and the supply chain relationships, as well as cultivating a people-oriented culture, and continuing to innovate and lead the industry in new techniques and practices ensuring the most efficient use of available resources while enhancing the environment.

The business has also been recognised for its efforts in implementing initiatives to reduce the consumption of energy from fossil fuels, including energy management, self-supply and adoption of low-carbon technologies, with a shortlisting for the Energy in Water Award for its work at Wilmington Phosphorous Removal scheme. The scheme is delivering a unique low carbon solution to ensure compliance with new lower permitted phosphorous discharge levels and the existing aluminium permitted on site.

Mark Shadrick, Managing Director for Galliford Try’s Environment business, commented: “This is a huge achievement for the team, and I am incredibly proud for being nominated in these categories which demonstrates our commitment to achieving the Sustainable Growth across our business.

“As we continue to grow, it is great to have this progress recognised. We are also proud to be sponsoring two categories at this year’s awards – Rising Star of the Year and the Engineering Consultancy of the Year. I look forward to the awards and wish all finalists the best of luck.”

The Water Industry Awards are the industry’s celebration of the very best practice from the frontline of the water sector. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Vox, Birmingham on 4 July.
