Adding social value in custodial projects

Galliford Try has a long-standing relationship with the Ministry of Justice and we have successfully delivered over 100 projects for the MOJ since 2012 meeting the complex and diverse needs across the estate.

We are committed to driving added value and supporting the long-term vision to reduce re-offending rates and support prisoner rehabilitation. The success of our social value delivery is strengthened by our relationships with the establishments, and partnering with supply chain and social enterprises.

Over the past two years we have successfully delivered:

  • Two prison leavers employed full time (HMP High Down and HMP Feltham).

  • One degree prison apprenticeship commenced (HMP High Down / HMP Stanford Hill).
  • Eight ROTL full time places- 1 electrician, 1 banksman, 1 bricklayer and 5 labourers (HMP High Down, HMP Ford).

  • Engaged with over 390 prisoners offering direct careers and employment workshops (HMP High Down, HMP Feltham, HMP Cookham Wood, HMP Moorlands, HMP and YOI Hatfield and HMP Wealstun).

  • 22 one2one interviews via Teams- pre release (HMP High Down & HMP Feltham)

  • Furniture and construction signage purchased within the establishments.

HMP Rye Hill project

HMP Rye Hill is a category B men's prison within the Ministry of Justice’s High Security Estate portfolio. The prison is located to the South of Rugby near the village of Dunchurch, just off the M45.

The Prison is run on behalf of the MoJ by G4S. Currently the prison houses 664 number prisoners spread across several existing wings, which were constructed in 2001.

The Galliford Try site is bounded by existing HMP Rye Hill to the south and HMP Onley (category C men's prison) to the west, and the Oxford canal to the east.

The extension works will provide an additional 460 prisoner places at HMP Rye Hill as part of the MoJ’s expansion programme to fulfil the require prisoner places.

In addition it will create:

  • New workshops and classroom facilities to accommodate the increased capacity.
  • New activity centre.
  • New multi-faith building.
  • Extension to the existing visitors car park.
  • Refurbishment of various areas of the existing prison to allow for the increased capacity.
